Eric Wilhelm, founder of Instructables, has this project in the The Best of Instructables
book - it’s also on his site here. It was originally a Howtoon (a great resource for fun projects). We made one this weekend with about $4 worth of parts. It’s really easy, and we learned all sorts of stuff about finding parts at the hardware store; how to use a miter box and hacksaw; that PVC sawdust is full of static and hard to clean up; you shouldn’t wear your socks when cutting PVC because bits stick all over them; and you can roll pieces of pipe towards you with the vacuum cleaner. And the marshmallows really do go around all those corners!

And it’s a safe and easy way to feed polar bears at the zoo!
I built these a couple years ago, but we didn’t have very good luck. Turns out that the only 1/2″ CPVC pipe available in Salem was the Genovo Flowguard Gold. A high quality pipe, which also happens to have a smaller inside diameter (nominally 0.47-0.49″) than most other brands. I’ve recently found some other stuff that is a little larger (0.50-0.51″) and seems to work much better.
Incidentally, 1/2″ CPVC makes for excellent barrel replacements on Nerf dart blasters.
