This one is for the knitting peeps - a couple of weeks ago I was sick for a whole weekend (after a marathon session in the garden!), and the only thing constructive I could do was knit washcloths. I have a pair of socks on the needles and really liked the stitch pattern I was using, but the tiny needles were just too much for me - Sugar and Cream cotton and size 8s were very soothing. I think the sock stitch pattern translated to washcloth came out very well - it would make a great scarf pattern, too! Ann and Kay of Mason-Dixon Knitting started this whole washcloth/dishrag thing a couple years ago, and it really stuck. They’re fun to do, and easy, plus, Sugar and Cream yarn is only about 2 bucks a ball, and you can get a couple washcloths out of it.
Here’s the pattern:
Cast on 33 stitches on size 8 needles.
Row 1: K1, P1, K1, *P3, K1, P1, K1, repeat from star across row.
Row 2: P3, *K1, P1, K1, P3, repeat from star across row.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until it seems the right size. Cast off in pattern and weave in the ends.
