Caterpillar identification?

Any entomologists out there? I found this guy this afternoon - I’d love to know what he is, so I can keep him inside and we can watch him change. I found him under the edge of a porch step, not on any plants, so I have no idea what to feed him to keep [...]

Vertical gardening with tubes o’ dirt!

I had a strawberry plant explosion this year - a few plants out back turned into hundreds, sending out runners and making little plants everywhere, even in my little bit of lawn! I’ve been digging them up and putting them in pots, giving them away; I even sold a box of them at our yard [...]

Tiny House Living newsletter

Goodwill samovar

My friend Mad Maxine scored an awesome old samovar at Goodwill the other day - she has a great post on her blog about how it works. It reminds me a bit of a rocket stove - it uses very small amounts of fuel very efficiently.

Recycled hand-tool shed

I really love this kind of simple and creative re-use - Sadge at the Simple Green Frugal Co-op used a garage sale mailbox as a hand-tool storage shed!

Pickled radishes

I’m a big fan of pickled things - cucumber pickles, sure, but also the stranger stuff like beets and herring. Just Bento recently blogged about “instant” pickled radishes - she used a combination of vinegar/salt/sweet that sounded really interesting with the heat of the radish, and it sounded so good I needed to try it. [...]

Obsolete technology art

WebUrbanist has another wonderful round-up of recycled art - this batch is all from obsolete technology. My favorite is this dangerous-looking cat by Jeremy Meyer - it looks like it’s made mostly from typewriter parts.
