Rachel tweeted about this great list of summer kid crafts on The Long Thread - everything from sunprinting to kaleidoscopes to making ice cream in a coffee can.
It’s probably too soon for kids to be bored with summer break, but I’m going to start sharing some frugal kid-projects from around the net. I found a few posts about reusing small bits of crayons to make big crayons. Zakka Life used candy molds to recycle old crayons into cute shapes. Daily Danny melted [...]
Ki Nassauer from Junk Revolution is doing awesome stuff with junk again - she made this totally adorable four-poster cat bed from an old table. Oliver the cat looks quite pleased.
Canon has a bunch of wonderful free papercraft downloads - I really like this science-y one that depicts the structure of the sun. They also have a model of the moon.
This one is for the knitting peeps - a couple of weeks ago I was sick for a whole weekend (after a marathon session in the garden!), and the only thing constructive I could do was knit washcloths. I have a pair of socks on the needles and really liked the stitch pattern I was [...]
Ki Nassauer of Junk Revolution makes the most amazing things out of junk - she has a great eye for seeing the potential in stuff. She recently had an Ugliest Light Fixture in the World Contest asking her commenters for ideas about what to do with a truly horrible light fixture. There were some great [...]
Stamp Carving from Geninne D. Zlatkis on Vimeo.
Stamps are a great way to make your own inexpensive gift tags and cards, but the stamps can be kind of expensive. Geninne Zlatkis carves her own stamps, and made this absolutely fascinating video documenting the process. (It looks like she’s done it a million times, her hands [...]
Tim sent me this link to a wikiHow about making flip flops from a recycled yoga mat - it looks really easy and it looks like you can get several out of one mat, depending on the mat thickness. Thanks, Tim!
Craftstylish has a really nice two-part tutorial on making a t-shirt quilt (one, two) - it’s a neat way to keep visiting those favorite t-shirts after they’re too worn to be worn. I think I’ll have to do this with my son’s favorite-yet-outgrown t-shirts, rather than just save them in a box. (via WhipUp)
I signed up a while ago for the Kids Craft Weekly email newsletter - my son is older, so he’s outgrown pretty much all of the crafts, but they have lots of fun, inexpensive craft ideas for smaller kids, and it’s free! This week’s issue was about making simple cards; there were some really cute [...]
