Floating barge home

Erika sent me a link to this New York Times article about the Waterpod, a home built on a barge. They plan to make the 30×100 foot barge as self-sufficient as possible, with chickens, gardens, and power from a mix of solar, wind, and bicycle.

Huge urban farm planned in Detroit

Wow - Hantz Farms is planning on using vacant land and abandoned property to start a 70 acre urban farm in the city of Detroit. They want to grow fruits and vegetables, and harvest wind energy, use geothermal heat, and biomass fuel from recycling compost.
