Here’s another cute, cheap kid’s project - Chez Beeper Bebe has a tutorial on building your own coloring books; they’re very cute, and she has a lot of online sources of coloring pages. This would be a fun project for an older child to make for a younger child. Via WhipUp

The Green Festival is this weekend in Seattle - we went last year and really enjoyed it. Lots of alternative energy exhibits, gardening stuff, more free samples of fair trade organic chocolate than you could possibly eat. I’ll be wandering around there on Saturday.
If you’re a knitter, you know yarn can be really expensive - non-knitters tend to be surprised that it’s not almost free (and that it actually takes time and skill to knit something). I’ve found a few places online with inexpensive yarn lines, closeouts and discontinued colors.
